She would look like a stalker, if her own family's chambers weren't located in the same manse. Pacing the polished floor, just... lurking. Waiting. Where could she be?
They were all leaving in a few days time; noble families from Ahestere and Arbrecht had already begun to depart, their homeward voyages taking much longer than those in the Mark. Still, Cornelia and her family would be taking a separate ship than their Province Lord's, and although she assumed her father would not step foot off the island without making sure Cassius DeLauncey's own pair had left first, she still... wondered when they were going. For silly, superficial reasons. Really, it didn't matter if she knew. If it came up organically in conversation, then of course, Cornelia would mind knowing, after all. But really, the point of seeking out Josephine DeLauncey -- even though they knew eachother only as slightly better than acquaintances, was to see how her family was doing. No one knew the origins of Lord DeLauncey's supposed outburst, and even that was speculative, as the entire family seemed to vanish from thin air even as commotion exploded during the grand ball. Cornelia's intentions were a little more... selfish, in nature. "Josephine!" Cornelia blurted out, the words a bit too loud for any comfort, as she snapped from her reverie at the sight of the tall brunette. She paused, a half-wild smile on her face, when Cornelia realized she probably looked like a lunatic -- and, one hand smoothing the folds of her skirts, Cornelia tried to walk slowly (while she'd much rather break out in to a run) towards where Josephine stood in the corridor. |

Josephine was jolted out of her knitting project by the voice of Cornelia de Valle. Had Cornelia called out for her particularly loudly, or was Josephine just so deep in thought that she imagined it being rather shocking? Well, it wouldn't be polite to ask, so she should just act normal. "Cornelia! How does the day find you?"
It seemed like Cornelia might have something specific to ask, but Josephine wasn't entirely sure. Smalltalk always worked for a first effort, at any rate. |

"Lovely!" she said loudly, unable to temper her voice as she moved to Josephine's side. Why was she acting like a crazed person? She needed to keep her voice down, and Cornelia awkwardly cleared her throat, as if to cover up from her fluctuating volume.
"And yourself? How is your -- what are you knitting?" Cornelia queried pleasantly, moving to take a seat beside her. |

"I'm well," Josephine was sure now that Cornelia had something else to say, but she would keep along with the chatter as long as she needed to. It was only polite, although she was curious, to play along.
"I'm knitting a shawl... which seems odd to be doing in the capital, in June, doesn't it? But I have to knit now if I want to be prepared for the winter in the north." She hoped she would still be preparing for winter in the north... with Marchie betrothed, even with the circumstances, she knew that she would not be too far behind. |

Cornelia nodded, watching the methodical process within which Josephine was knitting her shawl. If Cornelia were honest, she would have said she found such a trivial practice entirely and utterly boring -- but then again she had never been one for even simple embroidering, either. Lucky for her she had six other sisters to learn the skill, and her own abysmal attempts were often overlooked.
"It seems a little early for that, don't you think? We are not even through the summer months!" Cornelia said lightly, ruminating on how much longer the warm weather would keep in the Mark. Nonetheless, she was sure the DeLauncey family would begin arranging for the festivities in Waternesse in the fall; and that usually heralded the beginning of snowfall. Perhaps it wasn't so far away, after all. "So... how much longer is your family remaining in the Capital?" Cornelia queried lightly, letting her blue gaze remain on the working wool in Josephine's hands. |
