[08.5] Houses of Lacharn
House Prothero Llywarch, Province Ruler "We Will Remember"  House Prothero has ruled the island of Lacharn since 556 BF, when the disagreements between the families on Lacharn, expatriots from Pelasaia, so strained the two islands that they decided to join as one. In 213 BF, Pelasaia, now part of the Linchao Republic, came back to invade and add to their lands, and Prothero fell. The remaining members of the family fled to the League of Arbrecht, where they lived in a smallhold of the Fitzwulf family for two hundred years, until the rest of what would become Forsilvra decided to drive the invaders out. They retook their seat, and quickly joined the new Forsilvran alliance. Returning the island to its peaceful, prosperous ways, they nevertheless bolstered the defenses that had so failed them before. Becoming very devoted to Quintism, members of the family generally believe that their recapture of their seat shows the gods have blessed their right to it. Because of this, there are many temples to the goddess Shai, in remembrance of their two centuries lost. Like all Houses of Lacharn, inheritance is done by the first born regardless of gender. They trade in many things, but are known far and wide for their textiles. Their words are ‘We Will Remember’ [House Genealogy]

House Merrick Dyos, Banner Lords "Trade and Wisdom"  House Merrick is an old house, built long before the invasions were even a thought. House Merrick is so old that the reason why their banner is a cat has been long forgotten, though it is said to have previously been a sun, and that a particular lord who was incredibly fond of his cat, changed it. This whimsy sets the tone of the house. Though they are adept and stable rulers, each Merrick has their own little quirks. They are calm, rational people who don’t shy away from emotions. They just like to have fun. They are by far the oldest and wealthiest family of Dyos. As one of the original founders of Lacharn, they founded the city Dyos. Dyos is an ocean city with a lively port area. At the same time, they get many visitors to visit their beautiful beaches (though not tropical, the water is relatively warm and the sand is well kept). The main livelihood of the city, however, is their paper and print production. Dyos is home to many of the world’s most skilled paper makers. This has expanded into printmaking and calligraphy, and Forsilvra’s best calligraphers usually come from Dyos. They also produce some of the finest cloths, which are high trading commodity. House Morgandy Enyon, Banner Lords "Courage Without Fear"  The Morgandys were enstated as bannerlords in recognition of their aid in reclaiming Lacharn from invaders more than two hundred years ago. Courageous and loyal, their prowess impressed the Prothero family, to the point where they were awarded the city of Enyon. They have remained dedicated to their lands and people since, and beneath their leadership Enyon has bloomed into a place of laughter, dance and song. The performing arts intermesh with their culture, but they are also known for their trade, among other things, in herbs and tea. They have a particular affinity for the sea and sailing, most Morgandys and their people being every bit as comfortable on water as they are on land. Such is reflected in their banner- a combination of sea creature, and horse. Many own their own boats, which are as precious to them as family. Morgandys are known for being likeable, and for their immense hospitality towards visitors, but also for their bravery in the face of enmity. Their motto is "Courage Without Fear." House Vaughan Cnaith, Banner Lords "No Gods, No Masters"  House Vaughan officially founded in BF, but their assembly started in 13BF when House Prothero started formulating a way to counterattack against the Linchao Republic. Originally the area of Cnaith belonged to House Foulkes, but they were wiped out during the time that the Linchao conquered Lacharn. The founding ancestors of House Vaughan actually comprised of a group of primarily female specialized warriors known as the Black Lotus Clan. They were conscripted in 13BF by House Prothero to begin the infiltration process of Lacharn prior to the formed alliance in order to weaken its internal defenses so that it would ensure future successes. The equivalent of Lacharn’s ‘Black Ops’ soldiers, they integrated themselves into Linchao society and, through a series of covert assassinations and interlaced political dissent, helped pave the way for Rhianwen of the Oaken Mace and the new alliance to formally take back Lacharn. However, because of the Black Lotus' origins, and the fact that a great deal of progress against the Linchao required them to engage in being double agents, House Vaughan has always been denied acknowledgment in their historical role of regaining Lacharn. Their loyalties have always been questioned, and their honor is considered ‘diminished’ by most of the Lacharn houses. The only reason why House Vaughan exists is because it was the agreed “payment” prior to their involvement in the reclaiming of Lacharn by House Prothero. Cnaith was granted to them since there was no longer a ruling house, and the Black Lotus Clan wanted a place to call home. The clan members inter-married and founded House Vaughan in order to ensure that all of the members involved would have equal ownership of Cnaith. House Vaughan enforces a strict matriarchal society where men are forbidden from holding any form of political power, and take on the wife’s last name. They have a unique ruling caste system, uphold vassal houses comprised from other provinces, exchanges Quintism for a belief known as Vrata or ‘dedication of purpose’, and is most known for their exceptionally skilled warriors. Their motto is: “Ni dieux, ni maîtres” or “No gods, no masters.” [House Genealogy]

House Cairroch Hyre, Banner Lords "Majestic Through Perseverance, Rise""  The Cairrochs have ruled Hyre since they first settled on the island back when the refugees from Pelasaia made their way over after the Linchao Republic invaded their homeland. They are one of the oldest and most prominent families in Lacharn, and developed a knack for military proficiency. Being separated from the rest of Lacharn, they often were involved in arguments which led to the rise of House Prothero as the rulers over all of Lacharn. The Cairrochs relented to House Prothero, and focused on development of arms, as well as perfumes. By the time the Linchao Republic invaded Lacharn, the Cairrochs invited the invaders into Hyre and surrendered without any fighting. For this, the people of Hyre flourished as the Linchao rewarded them with jobs in production for their war efforts. The people of Hyre were safe, and the Cairrochs primary concern was the safety of their subjects. They were involved with the resistance, often sending secret messages to House Prothero about weaknesses and defects in certain military arms, as well as general information about affairs in Lacharn. When the time came to eject the Linchao, the Cairrochs were mobilised with the resources and planning to expel the foreign invaders from their island. It had caught the Linchao off guard. They had been patient, biding their time. After the war, the Cairrochs focused on strengthening defences of Hyre, and helped pay for reconstruction and recovery throughout Lacharn after the damages of the Linchao Occupation. Myrdden Cairroch had taken Linchao concepts, and enhanced the old mountain pattern armour that had long been a famous export of House Cairroch. The family flourished as manufacturers of the finest armour and weapons in Lacharn, in addition to scents and perfumes. The family only came to misfortune when the plague arrived, wiping out much of the main line of the family. Though the plague temporarily crippled the economy, things have gradually since returned to normal. [House Genealogy]
