Leila is amongst the shortest in her family, standing at only 5’1”
Personality:
Leila is a bubbly, happy teenager, always looking on the bright side of things. She was always an agreeable child, rarely disobeying her parents. She is very eager to please, and always wants to reflect the best of her family to the rest of the country. She is good at talking to others, mostly smalltalk, and loves parties and meeting new people.

She’s been kept sheltered most of her life, and thus is a bit naive when it comes to the workings of court at large. She hasn’t travelled much, and thus doesn’t have much knowledge of the world outside of Ahestere, except for what she has had to learn in her lessons. While she learned her lessons well, and is able to act the part of a good Lady, she expects the best of people, even when she shouldn’t. She is too trusting, and the true nature of some of the nobility would shock her. There is not a conniving bone in her body, and if she needed for some reason to complete a savvy maneuver with subtlety... well, I would not count on it being completed.

Since her mother’s death, she has been more morose, but you wouldn’t know it from looking at her. In public, she is still the same happy girl, always seeing the bright side. She feels responsible for keeping her family together, as the only girl, and as her father’s always been distant. She is uncomfortable with displays of ‘negative’ emotions, whether from herself or from others. Leila will get very nervous if someone is angry with her, and tries to avoid that whenever possible. She would rather sneak around if she must do something that would anger someone else.

Leila is not a skilled embroiderer, or a seamstress. She tries her best in her lessons, but her true skills lie in music. Her music tutors often praise her skills at instruments and with vocals, but her other tutors are not near so glowing. She hopes when her family starts looking for a husband for her that the skills she has will be enough to woo a man.

History:
Leila was the third born to Hakim Linnet and his wife, Arilda Hallvador. It was a fairly easy birth, and she was always an easy child. In fact, she was so apt not to complain about anything that she was often overlooked. She always did her studies to the best of her abilities, but found the histories boring and confusing, and didn’t take to memorizing important families. The thing she was most skilled at was music, and she still loves song.

She is the only girl in her branch of the family, and thus grew up running around with her older brothers, and then her younger brother when he was born. The siblings were all very close, and Leila was very close to her mother, but her father was a difficult man to be close to, and was very distant to the children.

They had heard tell of the plague from the other provinces far before it actually hit Ahestere, but when it did, it hit Leila’s life very hard. Her mother died, as did her eldest brother. Leila was adrift for awhile, trying to keep her remaining brothers afloat as well as herself. She withdrew for some time, but eventually emerged from her rooms, become much the same girl she had been. It was only those in her families that could tell how the tragedies had effected her.

Just getting close to womanhood, Leila has begun to consider romance and her future marriage. She’s not sure how to feel - she knows many marriages do not work, but she still has lofty ideals for a man to sweep her off her feet. She’s developed a few crushes already, but doesn’t much know how to go about flirting.

Writing Sample:
Leila was dancing on air since the news had come that they’d be going to Court. The memorial would be sad, of course, to be with everyone else who had lost people to it. They all had lost people. So to follow that with a celebration was just a lovely idea. She’d never been to a Tournament before, and had heard so many songs about them. Perhaps some Knight would ask for her favor?

And the balls, she was most excited for the balls. There were to be two of them over the course of the event, she would wear new dresses and hopefully impress the other Lords and Ladies. There would be music and dancing, and while she’d been at events in Ahestere, the capital was a different story altogether.

She paused to think for a moment of what sort of advice her mother would have for her, if she were here to give it. This would be a big event for Leila, her first of the kind, and she wished she had that sort of advice. But she supposed she’d just have to do what she could. She had to learn all about etiquette in her lessons, so she hoped sincerely that she would not be so bad at this after all of that.
