[Your Information]
Name: Collette Contact: PM/Gtalk! (keeva.kaldres[AT]gmail.com) [Public Application] Character Name: Nathaniel Merrick Character Age: 29 Gender: Male Birthday (including year): March 20th, 212 Current Location: Forsilvra (Council Manor!) House [Birth and Marriage if applicable]: Merrick Player Base: Takeshi Kaneshiro Appearance: ![]() Personality: Throughout the entirety of his life, Nathan has always been easy-going, sociable and happy-go-lucky. 'Why make enemies when you can make friends?' is one of his favourite mantras to life, and he prides himself on being more lover than fighter. It helps, of course, that he is naturally easy to get along with, always sporting a ready smile, his dark eyes dancing as though nothing could possibly come to shatter his peace. He is a wonderful listener, always seemingly interested in hearing what it is the other party has to say. He is typically comfortable to be around, which could be called an asset considering his position as Authority of Diplomacy on Council to the Crown. He is not, however, stupid or a fool, as some might intrinsically expect. Behind his smiling face and easy mannerisms lies a keen mind- one which is more than capable of soaking information in like a sponge. He is well travelled, and fancies that he knows a fair bit about the outside world. Communication with others has always been a talent which came easily to him, combined with his ability to read people and emphasise. Most of the time. The exception appears to be his wife, Kenna of the Montrose clan, who still seems yet to be taken by his supposedly considerable charms. She remains something of a mystery, an impossibility to him, but one that he meets handily nonetheless. There is nothing he would love better than for her to let him in, and to let loose some of the iciness inside. To his children, Nathan is a doting father. He spoils them relentlessly (much to the displeasure of his lady wife) and is keen on having them experience many of the same freedoms that he himself had as a child. His other loves include music, foods and fine wines, all of which he considers best shared. History: As the youngest of many children, Nathaniel never had to worry about succeeding as Lord of the House. Even with the devastation of the plague, he was still left in a position from which he would likely never amount to overly much. With an abundance of older brothers and sisters, along with their heirs, he could comfortably watch the world go by, lingering within Dyos as he pleased. He did, not, however, as wanderlust took him, bidding him leave the familiar walls of home, and go elsewhere. He had traveled only a little in his youth, and as far as he could remember had enjoyed it. And so, at the age of eighteen, he left, seeking to find his own way throughout the outside world. In the end, he only got as far as the Vandermark before turning back, not being much accustomed to travelling on his own. There were a number more facets to traipsing around the land than he had initially considered, though it was only a couple of years before he made the attempt once again. His second endeavour led him south, towards Ahestere. As he began to settle into his travels, however, word arrived of a sickness spreading in the north, though he dismissed this information at first. It was only when news came of the King's death that he halted, returning to his family's home in Dyos with all speed. There he remained for the next three years, supporting his family and their city as required. He did so with cheer, his natural charm showing through and aiding with morale. All the while he kept in communication with contacts he had made throughout his travels; a bid to keep tabs on the spread of the plague, and to learn quickly what anyone else knew. With the death of the Council's previous Authority of Diplomacy, Nathan found himself put forwards as one of Lacharn's prospects. His elder brother Alistair, now banner lord of Dyos, likely saw the suggestion as being a good political move, especially following the marriage of Balthasar to Lady Prothero. Nathan was subsequently accepted and made the move for Forsilvra, filled with excitement all the while, and only the slightest inkling, of fear. Whilst the first few weeks proved somewhat awkward, Nathan was quick to settle in, making new friends everywhere he went, and taking pains to become properly acquainted with all his fellow councilors, as well. Presumably this worked well, since he ended up marrying one of his fellow councilor's daughters, the lovely Kenna Montrose. A couple of years later they ended up having their first children- twins- upon whom Nathan doted incredibly, his life seemingly having been made complete. He still keeps in touch with his family as he can, even with his time being pushed by having to keep in communication with his diplomats all over the provinces. Family, after all, are important. Writing Sample: Finally, he had arrived at Castle Licorn. He was not certain his anticipation could have held out much longer. Who'd have thought that he would end up being appointed the Authority of Diplomacy... to the King? It was like some crazy fantasy fairytale- surely there had been more capable sorts? But then... he had been chosen, hadn't he. That meant that somehow, he had to have made an impression on those in charge. Or Alistair had. Either way, it hardly made a difference anymore. He was here- actually, physically here- and his prospects were only looking better and better. He whistled, impressed as he looked upon the castle's exterior. Everything appeared so... perfect, as though formed from the fabric of a dream. Chuckling to himself, he turned, a declaration in bright spirits to those who had attended him; both those who had travelled with him from Dyos, and those who had joined him at Belleile. "Let's not keep everyone waiting, shall we?" It was time to do all the fine people here at Castle Licorn the pleasure of being met. [Time Line Events] Year 212: Nathaniel is born. Year 235: Nathaniel is appointed Authority of Diplomacy. Year 236: Nathaniel marries Kenna Montrose. Year 238: Twins, Maddox and Tyler, are born. Year 241: Game begins.
