Brielle was absolutely insane.
As she waited for her cousin to arrive with Brynden in front of Brady's study, she was thankful for the near emptiness of the family wing of the castle. After all, this sort of abuse was not anything new to Dragonhold's halls, and to some extent, was mild in comparison to other things that had happened. As she knocked on the study door, dressed rather dowdily in the dove grey dress and the mismatched veil, the circlet akimbo, Lyn did not want to see the same anger that Brielle had when they saw the bruises. She was not wanting to relay the story again. It hurt. She hurt. All she wanted to do was to crawl back into bed and die, not be examined like a fish at market. |

He'd sent his manservant off but apparently hadn't thought to leave someone by the door to discourage distractions. Damn. Bradamar pulled himself away from the books he had been going over again to go see who was stupid enough to interrupt him. He opened the door swiftly, glaring out-- but his expression altered slightly when he saw Lynesse. Gods, hadn't Rhaelle talked to her about dressing like that?
"Lyn? What's the matter? Brielle's not in some new mischief, is she...?"

"Brielle will be here soon enough. There's something that happened and I need to talk to you about it. Can I come in?"
Uneasily and somewhat stiff, she looked up at Brady with plaintive eyes, still red-rimmed. "Bri said I should talk to you and Bryn about it. I wasn't so sure about it, but I think she might be right. It's not about her. I swear it." |

Damn it was to be a bloody council meeting. Bradamar sighed and opened the door wider to allow Lynesse to enter. "Do you want something to drink? You look..." like you've been crying. "You're sure Brielle didn't start whatever this is?"

"I'd rather wait until she gets here, if possible. She's supposed to be off getting Bryn, but who knows what she found along the way." Entering, she shook her head. "No, I think I'll be fine."
In all reality, she wasn't. She wanted Brielle to be there, to tell her that things were going to be all right, that Agrivane would never hurt her again. If only she had some willow tea, anything to get the dull ache to stop. Willing Brielle to appear as soon as she could, sat down as calmly as she could. "Brady, this is something that I'm worried about. This cannot happen again." |

Brielle had found Brynden down by the training yard and didn't offer much explanation as she dragged him off toward the castle again. "Brady needs to talk to you. Immediately. Come on."
She had a firm hold on his arm as they walked. It was one thing for her to annoy Lynesse and bully her into doing things, but if her brothers didn't do something now, she was going to be forced to poison Agrivane and that was not really something she had the time for at the moment. Brielle didn't even bother knocking on the door, just opened it and stalked in with Brynden alongside. She shut the door and turned to Lynesse. "Take the veil off," she said quickly before her eyes went to her brothers. "Both of you look long and hard and tell me what you think should be done in retribution for this." |

Ashamedly removing the veil and circlet, Lynesse tried desperately not to start crying again. She felt shame that she had to be dragged to go see Brady and Bryn, and the dark purple and green of her bruising on her ordinarily pale skin was ugly. She felt ugly.
As she looked down, not wanting to meet their eyes, she waited to hear the verdict. |

Bradamar's eyes went wide and he looked from Lynesse to Brynden as if his brother would somehow know what was going on. "WHAT THE HELLS---" He stopped himself from shouting, but only just.
"Lynesse, who did this?" If someone had attacked her... if it was one of those useless Forthwinds... those sellswords Rhaegar Mallory dragged along... who would dare lay a hand on a Velaryon?

Newly formed tears fell from her eyes. "I don't want to say." It was one thing to tell Brielle, another to tell Brady and Bryn. "I also don't want to get hurt, that's all. At least not again. And I don't want him to get hurt, either. I don't know why he did this."
She looked at Brielle for courage, but she didn't want to hurt anyone, especially not in her small family. "It may just be easier to avoid him. The castle's large enough, isn't it?" |
