The ride had not been long, merely four days march, but they had gone at a leisurely pace. The troops might be needed as soon as they got there, so Tandor had insisted they move slower, even if Fletcher was more in command of the forces than he himself. He was just the Castell ornament for the excursion. Tandor smiled to himself at the thought. He was not a fan of courtly intruige, of strategy of maneuvering...he could really care less. Now, fighting and killing, that was something he was used to.
In effect, the main reason he was here was to be Fletcher's bodyguard and be a Castell presence, while reporting back to Victor. He was trusted to be his main man in the field. That was good enough for Tandor. He turned to his companion as they rode and grunted approval. "Nice city you have here, Leiham. You must run it well." |

Fletcher had been restless these past days, it'd seemed like years since he left his family behind and marched back for his home without them. With Tandor by his side, he at least felt that he was in comfortable company and he could be a bit more lighthearted at least.
"Is that what I do? 'Run it'?" Fletcher chuckled. "Thank you, Tandor. I try hard to not displease our King. He has placed a large amount of trust on my shoulders, I can't let him down!" He shifted his weight a bit on his horse and looked to Tandor. "You, I have been told, are the man that I want by my side in any fight. You've been spoken highly of, never have I heard better a word!" He was smiling. |

Tandor didn't mind Fletcher, but he was far too cheery. They were part of an army going to reinforce a potential front line. He should really have been focused and stoic, but, Victor had entrusted it to him, so Tandor had to trust it. Victor's will was paramount and he was usually right.
"I know not what word you would prefer. Whatever word, you are certainly doing Lord Castell's eminence justice with your care and attention to detail." Tandor nodded and looked around, making his horse match Fletcher's horse's speed. "I am Lord Castell's shield, Lord Leiham. As it is my duty, this protection now extends to you, so it is only fitting. What, beyond that, have you heard of me?" |

Tandor wasn't a man for joking it seemed. Well, either that or he didn't understand the joke. Oh well. He did like him though, his attention to detail and his sound mind was a very valuable asset to their endeavors. All Fletcher could do was thank the gods they finally had someone worth more then just a sack of shit these days. Thank the gods for Tandor!
He smiled to his companion and answered his question. "I have heard many a great tale of your skills. I'm glad to have you along for the long and boring haul." He was being honest and the situation they were in was a mess and he hoped that at the end of this maze of war, that death wouldn't find him just yet. |

Tandor looked off into the distance, studying the terrain, to understand the best ways to send scouts and spies with least detection. The river would make it more difficult, but maybe there was a ford near the forest downriver? He would have to study the maps a little more. The tactics and strategy for the lay of the land, he would leave to Fletcher, but his role was to find out and report back to Victor and Fletcher all he could. He didn't intend to fail such an important duty.
...Even if Fletcher kept on grinning like an idiot... "A tale? Was it the one in which I rode a dragon straight into the bandit forces, or my personal favourite, where I stood upon a bridge and yelled, scaring a million troops away?" This may have drawn a laugh from anyone else, but Tandor's lips didn't even flinch in mirth. He simply shrugged and his scowl lessened. That was about all anyone could expect. His voice was deadpan, not on purpose, but as that was his basic setting. It wasn't exactly hard for him to do. He'd had a lot of practice. "And what tales are there of Lord Leiham? Fletcher the Brave? The Invincible knight?" |

Fletcher laughed at Tandor's response. "Ah I must have heard the one where all of that was together. You rode your brilliant dragon, that you won in a duel, into battle and simply warned the men to return home. There was no conversation they just agreed and left peacefully." he chuckled again. "Hopefully you bring those same skills into this war, though I can't lie, I do enjoy a good fight."
The lack of entertainment with this man actually stunned Fletcher into a more sober mood. He started scanning the horizon as he couldn't think of anything more to do. "There are no tales of me. Fletcher the mundane is what they call me around town. The man who does nothing. Those names don't even have a ring to them! It seems no matter what, even the subject of myself, I'll always be the boring one!" He flashed a half smile and went back to looking around once more, he was finally able to notice that it was way too quiet. "Home is not too much further." He said as they started to ride up onto the outskirts of his own property. Last edited by Fletcher Leiham; 07-30-2011 at 11:05 PM. |
