Default Fieldtrip! (Rollo/Hadwyn) - enroute to Ryka - 5.7 - afternoon

Rollo stood on the deck of the Gilded Sun and took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. This was a multi-pupose trip that Rex had set him on. Emissary to the Mallorys, meeting with the Glodhetians for trade of a most... secretive nature, and gods only knew what else Rex would send after the war was over. At least he wasn't alone. Hadwyn was around somewhere.

He glanced at the helmsman and then at the horizon. What else was in Rex's mind? What else could his cousin be planning for Rollo? Not that he minded being Rex's right hand. It came with its perks, such as a few of the female slaves in the hold (save for Rex's toys. He had to not touch those but make sure they were broken without being broken in. That was his cousin's special task to do alone, and he knew Rex didn't like others playing with his toys.).

Leaning on the rail, he looked out to the ocean. They'd be in Ryka soon and negotiations of all sorts of natures would commence...

Hadwyn wasn't exactly sure what his purpose was on this trip. But he didn't mind the orders so much - it wasn't so far from home, and he was thankful Rex still trusted him with anything after his parents' disgrace.

He approached the visit like most other trips Rex had sent him on - ask no questions. Hadwyn was fairly certain he did not want to know, and the time Rollo spent out of view would seem to confirm Hadwyn's suspicions. As upstanding as Hadwyn wished to be, on Strom you had to have a thick skin for the goings-on around you.

He went up to deck, and saw Rollo by the rail. "It looks calm enough, at least. Mhare has blessed the journey."

Rollo glanced over at the man and nodded. "Indeed. One never knows when the sea will decide to take its displeasure on innocent men." He grinned. "We will be upon Svavel soon enough, I estimate within a day and a half. Rex asked me to have you close by, and I have a great deal of business to do on his behalf. It's not the most interesting stuff in the world, but while I'm with Lord Mallory, I might need you to look after the... cargo."

The mainlanders and their fuss against slavery was rather ridiculous, but he wasn't going to get into his thoughts on such matters. Rex wanted slave trade, he was going to get slave trade. Period.

He was not one to question orders, but he did wonder what his place was here. Rollo didn't even seem to know. But to guard the 'cargo'... cargo which he had no idea what it was and frankly didn't want to. "Of course... I'll look after the ships."

"What are you going to discuss with Lord Mallory? If you are permitted to speak of it, of course. I would not want to infringe on our Lord's desires."

He gave Hadwyn a slow half-smile that turned into a full grin. "I see no reason to keep it from you, Hadwyn. Since Lord Mallory is now married to my cousin Rosalie, Lord Rex wants to open up more secure trade and alliances with Svavel. From what I understand, I think he's also trying to marry me off, probably to one of Christopher's cousins. I don't know yet how that will go. The Mallory women aren't exactly bad-looking, but I do wonder how they'll take to life on Strom."

Hadwyn nodded. "Well, that sounds like a solid plan! And congratulations, my Lord." He playfully clapped Rollo on the shoulder. He was to be wed, wed well, and the Mallory women, out of all of them, seemed likely to be able to handle Strom.

"I'm sure your Lady cousin will be able to tell you about whoever you end up betrothed to... she must have met the women by now."

He laughed lightly and nodded. "Thanks, but don't congratulate me yet. Nothing is official until Lord Mallory agrees. And while it would be the height of bad manners for him to do so, it still is up in the air. I can't say I'm feeling too sorry about it, though it only means that any trysts I do have will now have to be more clandestine." Though honestly it had been a while since he had really sought the company of a woman. Not because he hadn't wanted to, but because he had other things on his mind, like Castells visiting, and the death of his brother, and war in Stoft. It surprised him that his libido wasn't at the forefront of his mind, but he attributed it to getting older rather than pure boredom with the idea of wenching. After all, who in their right mind got bored of wenching?

Hadwyn planned on being faithful when the time came for him to wed, but he wasn't going to say that to Rollo. Being faithful on Strom was like... being some sort of mythical dragon beast or something. "I imagine he'll accept. It's too risky nowadays to cause offense unless it's needed, and Lord Mallory has so many cousins."

"I don't know about you, but I'm actually looking forward to being wed. I guess it's up to me now, and I haven't found the right woman, but... well, I'm getting older too." Maybe he'd meet some girl while traveling.

Rollo shrugged. "I have an aversion to weddings. They have resulted in deaths for my siblings, losses for my house, and frankly are the biggest headache in the world. I suppose I shall like this woman, but I travel so much for Rex anyway. Marriage hasn't been a remote possibility until recently, and only by necessity." He looked out over the water and tried not to think melancholy thoughts. If he had it his way he'd never marry, but Rex was sending him on this errand so he could hang himself by the noose of marital misery alongside his cousin.
