Default so we're here - 7/13 - Jacques, OPEN

Jacques spared the magnificence of the castle hardly a glance as he rode through the gates of Vykra, headed toward the citadel itself. His companions were as grim as he was- they hadn't made as good a time as he had hoped, with the thick, muggy heat so oppressive it weighed even on the horses. Now they were here and he was in no mood to hear anything else had gone amiss. If the banners were not ready to sail immediately he was going to have someone's head taken off for it.

He stopped his horse short in the courtyard and looked over those who had come to greet them, but the usual charm and smiles were nowhere in evidence in Jacques' features.

Even in the muggy summer air, Rhovanion could feel a chill when Lord Ashpool stepped into the courtyard. Their liege did not look pleased. He stole a quick glance at the others, but he doubted that anyone would be jumping to be the first one to stick their hand into the fire. Maybe it was his dutiful nature, or maybe it was just that he was used to the abuse by now, but for whatever reason he took a deep breath and a solid step forward to meet the Ashpool party first.

"Good to see you again, my lord. The northern fleet sailed from Vadra and arrived yesterday evening. We've kept the men at the ready for your arrival. The ships can set sail whenever you give the word."

"Good." Castell would expect them to remain here, a threat on the edge of the border- a show of force. He'd be using the time to get his men in place, but the bulk of them were in Praena now according to the scouts. Time to strike a blow at the flank. If they were lucky, Ovador would be stupid enough to march north to try to retaliate on Hsydra or Vykra, and they would close in behind them, sealing off their retreat and crushing them.

"We'll sail in the morning." Jacques' blue eyes were icy as he met Rhovanion's gaze.

"I'll have the captains notified to move at first light," he replied, waving to a page to get the message out to the ships. Rhovanion watched the boy go, though he knew he must eventually return to his lord's cold stare. But this was to be a war, not a pleasure cruise. Every man had a right to look grim.

"All was well in Dragonhall when we departed, though your family awaits your swift and safe return. Things look to be in good hands with Lord Aramis and your lady wife. Will you have any further orders, my lord?"
