Ohethlic Mordaunt

Making sure that everything was together, Ohethlic looked between his two sons. One of them had to stay here to rule over Fernna while he was gone. He could have taken them both, leaving his brother to rule but for some reason that did not sit well with him. “Calden, you shall stay here and rule in my absence while we are gone. Colthan, you will come with me, your mother and your sister to Joqla.” Calden gave his father a nod and within that minute Ohethlic clasped his son on the shoulder. “You will make me proud I know this.” He gave his son a hug, ignoring the furtive glances of his eldest son.
“Come are your things gathered?” He asked Colthan, whose face went into more of a blank look. He shook his head. ”No but I can gather them soon enough father.” Heth nodded. “Then go, and make sure your sister is already prepared. I do not want anything stopping us while we travel.” Yet before Colthan had ventured off he paused. “Why are you not having me stay behind father? I am the heir, by rights-” Ohethlic already felt his anger rise up. “You are the heir and must pay homage to our liege lord. How would you wish me to look, foolish bringing my younger son over my elder? No, Calden will stay here, after all he is next to rule if we are off to war. I know where your strengths are Colthan. Sitting as Lord of Fernna is not one of them.”
It took another moment for the boy to give his father a curt nod, all the warmth in the room had gone out. ”As you wish father.” And Ohethlic watched his eldest son leave. Why was he not taking this well? He was the heir of Fernna and his allegiance needed to be reassured to their next Lord. Calden could rule- after all he had two sons. Glancing at his youngest he sighed. “Do not let your emotions get the better of you my boy, much as it often does for your brother.” Calden nodded. He knew better.
At least he had one reliable son.
