Lord Rex,
I suspect I’m about to have unwanted guests on my southern borders. I request your aid in this unfortunate but extremely likely event, as the reply I will give to Castell regarding his seeming opinion that Ashpool is some tame pet dragon on a leash is less than complimentary toward his suitability to wear a crown.

My southern lords have instructions to send word to your cities the moment they see Castell forces. If he marches east on us, I trust your men will take full advantage. I’m sure your troops have long wanted to see the mainland. Let’s give them the chance to see if island girls really have more fun. No wolf is ever tame, and no dragon suited to a leash.

A letter is sent back, dated 6/13

Lord Jacques,

I did wonder about Victor's rather pointed message about a particular date to have my oath of fealty to him by a set date, though I am unsure whether you received my previous letter. It seems he wants a toothless wolf and a wingless dragon as his retainers. Does he also require footless horses? Tongueless serpents? Maybe even headless bears?

I once thought that the snakes could learn how to be a pack, but I have been proven wrong. He simply seems to keep us to admire us behind glass cages. I wonder if the Lord Castell has truly become mad with jealousy and ambition.

You can rest assured, Lord Ashpool, that should the armies of Castell face those of Ashpool, we will face them as the united front our houses once presented. The result, however, will not be the same. Especially as our ties are even more closely linked than they were then. You can count on your nephew, even be it from marriage, to honour that tie.
